Our Moderators

Alex Shahrestani, J.D., is the managing partner of Promise Legal PLLC in Austin, Texas, a law firm focused on technology companies and startups. Alex founded the Journal of Law and Technology at Texas while in law school, and his practice spans emerging technology law, data‐privacy and AI regulation, intellectual property for software firms, and advising high-tech startup ventures. Alex’s unique combination of legal training and software development experience allows him to translate complex issues like AI deployment, data-governance and SaaS licensing into practical strategies for law firms and startups alike.

Patrick A. Wright, Esq., is the managing partner of The Wright Firm, LLP, based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He is Board Certified in Family Law and Child Welfare Law in Texas, and serves as a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists and the International Academy of Family Lawyers. Patrick combines trial and appellate practice with a keen focus on law-practice innovation. As a tech-savvy practitioner passionate about law-practice innovation, he teaches continuing legal education programs on topics such as digital assets, technology and law firm management.
